Required Skills

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 4 years experience in a similar role.
  • Minimum 4 years' experience in the fresh produce industry.
  • Current forklift license
  • Packing machine experience 
  • Knowledge of labelling systems and requirements
  • Strong numeracy and literacy skills
  • Experience of working with major retail buyers.
  • Understanding of budgets, budgeting, rostering, cost analysis and all financial facets of production
  • Experience with managing inventory including pallets and crates.
  • Intermediate computer skills (especially MS Excel).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team player, director and motivator
  • Superior organization and time management skills.
  • Efficient and methodical 
  • Willingness to work market hours (i.e. early start and some weekend work).

Role Description

Extrastaff is seeking application from a suitably experienced Production Manager with a background in fresh produce.  

Our client is a long standing family business based in the Rocklea area; specialising in fresh produce growing, packing, procurement, logistics, packaging and marketing. The company services the major retailers in Australia and New Zealand, providing a diverse range of fresh and value added fruit and vegetables

Responsibilities for the role include:

  • Oversee and manage all packing tasks to full accurate completion
  • Maintain a forward production schedule
  • Manage cleaning requirements
  • Ensure completion of all documentation as required
  • Ensure the use of all business programs
  • Maintain cost effectiveness of packing processes 
  • Work with other departments to achieve customer order fulfillment 
  • Liaise with QC dept. to ensure product meets customer specifications
  • Ensure full accurate daily stocktake completion where necessary
  • Management of optimum consumable levels 
  • Communicate effectively with all other areas of the business including the sales team
  • Identifying and fill training needs for packing team
  • Complete any tasks assigned
  • Meet all requirements for food safety and quality codes
  • Actively promote group cultural  and core values
  • Comply with and promote workplace health and safety requirements
  • Operate load moving machinery as required
  • Assisting with the development of strategies to increase sales volumes and product range into new and existing markets.
