Our Client managers the water allocation for their members, which comprises 250 land owners, across 212,000 hectares, covering 300 properties bounded by Corowa, Daysdale, Oaklands and Jerilderie.

They are seeking to appoint a General Manager who has a thorough understanding of the State and Federal regulations connected to Water Allocation, specifically the Private Irrigation Districts Act of NSW and the updated Water Management Act, 2000.

Applicants who have a rural background, but are lacking the grounding in Water Management are also encouraged to apply.

A major component of the General Manager\'s position is recognising the opportunities that present themselves, through the general course of business, and acting on those. Therefore the successful applicant will be an individual who is proactive by nature and is actively seeking to expand Water Allocations for the members.

The members comprise a co-operative of mixed produce farmers who pay a management fee to allocate, protect and where possible extend their current water allocation through trading.

The water distribution operation, amounting to 686Ml per day and 565 kilometers of canals, is fully funded by the members and managed by the landholder elected Board of Management through the General Manager.

The farms vary from cattle and sheep holdings through to high intensity, high water usage crop farming such as rice, cereal, oil seed crops and potatoes.

The general Managers position is a hands on role that will involve face to face contact with the various stakeholders across the region.

An empathetic approach to the individual needs of large and small stakeholders is a major component of the position.

Responsibilities -

The prime responsible for the General Manager will be the strategic positioning of the Water Management body through actively contacting State and Federal Government agencies as well as the compilation and submission of relevant documents.

The General Manager will be directly responsible to the Board as well as the day to day management of four field staff who are tasked with the maintenance of canals and regulation of flows.

The incumbent will be directly responsible for the processes and procedures encountered in managing the water distribution body through the Board. This will also involve dealing with the various stakeholders across the region on a regular basis.



Required Skills and experience -

The successful applicant must:

Be proactive,
Have the ability to fully represent the Board\'s wishes to the members as well as the relevant Government agencies,
Have had previous senior management and/or operational experience,
A good understanding of financials, inclusive of payroll,
Good written and verbal skills,
Good negotiation skills, preferably dealing with Government Agencies,
Good man management skills.

KPIs -

A major component of the General Manager\'s role pivots around the understanding of the various legal entities and stakeholders, both State and National, that are involved in the national water grid and water allocations. The position will involve a working understanding of the Private Irrigation Districts Act of NSW and, through this and associated Acts, the maintaining of the current rights and the possible extension of further water allocations through tender and direct government contact. This is a fundamental KPI of the position.
