"Looking out for people, looking out for jobs"

Search Engine Optimization in Online Job Advertising

The Internet is mind bogglingly massive. Any idea, concept, rant or tale has been done to death 1,000 times over before you get the opportunity to post it. That being said there are types of data with a limited lifetime and just like the record charts the same 4:4 in E is being flung up as the latest hit and people are leaping at the opportunity to acquire it.

Its a fair analogy; some unheard of mega blond wants to screech about love lost and it is the next best thing. The same is true about job adverts. Your accounts payable role is the one where you want to scream from the electronic hill tops about how "just dandy" it is but in the noise of every other hit for "account[s|ing|able]" "pay[able|ee|er|dirt]" somehow you are just coming way down the list.

An industry was born: The Job Board. This little corner of the Internet means that everyone gets to put themselves in boxes and candidates and jobs unite. We used to have a few job boards but now we have more and more; some free, some niche, some massive, some on someones Facebook page.

With the rise and the rise of social media we are collectively learning that we can maintain professional and personal networks (like we have since the dawn of time) and use these to recruit. The thing is that there are many places and ways we can do this: job board, company web site, paper, email list, newsgroups, Linked In, blogging...and this list will grow and grow as new cute ways are found to get messages to us as people.

At Recruit Online we have worked with Extrastaff and it's clients to develop a way of enhancing the positioning of existing client niches. For example there might only be a few companies in Adelaide that employs "Adelaide Microwave Technician". The image below is from a Google search for those terms. The hits that are part of Recruit Online's efforts are highlighted.

As you can see the result is that out of 1,550,000 hits we have 4 in the top ten.

That being said we live and breathe this stuff (and it bores most people batty) but the point still remains that the Internet is changing everyday and there are new opportunities for you to promote your jobs and your business beyond the obvious places.

If you are:

  • Having a recruitment drive
  • Opening in a new location
  • Having difficulty finding candidates for niche positions
  • ...then you probably would benefit from some help in online job optimization.
